Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The existing Station No. 2 is located just south of 54 in Chapel Hill. The East West Partners desire to purchase the property for a new office tower and parking deck. With that purchase agreement the existing fire station will be replaced with a new 10,400 sq. ft. two story fire station that will be connected to the parking deck. This station will house their existing two engine company assigned to station 2 as well as the future need for a ladder company. Their current need is to house an EMS company which includes two EMS dorms, bay space for their ambulance and shared use of their facilities. It is slab-on-grade, with a combination of steel frame and load-bearing concrete masonry wall structure. The first floor features 3 apparatus bays, the associated gear/storage rooms, a watch room, safe haven, decon room with extractor, laundry, and SCBA work shop. The conditioned workout room on the mezzanine floor overlooks the apparatus bay and is adjacent to open storage and mechanical space. The second floor includes private sleeping quarters for 15 people including two private officer dorms, captains’ office, a large open day room/training room/kitchen. The two floors are connected with two fire poles for expedited access to the bay from the living quarters.
