| WAKE FOREST / ROLESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL - CAMPUS RENOVATION | ![]() |
After completion of a comprehensive, campus-wide study evaluating the options and feasibility for renovating or replacing existing buildings, Davis Kane Architects has been retained to design the campus renovation to bring Wake Forest-Rolesville High School into compliance with current Building Codes and Design Standards for new Wake County Public High Schools. The existing campus consists of approximately 261,000 square feet of gross building area, built from 1958 to 2006. After examining dozens of preliminary renovation and replacement schemes, five schemes representing the best options for campus redevelopment were proposed to Wake County Public Schools and one scheme was elected as the forerunner for the campus renovation project. The completion of the Design Narrative phase has provided a good starting point for re-designing the campus by identifying buildings which will be more cost effective to replace than to renovate. New challenges, including increased student capacity and increased parking on a restricted site, will be met as the Design Phase gets underway. |

| KINSTON FIRESTATION AND MUNICPAL BUILDING | Located directly across the street from the Kinston Indians ballpark, the New Kinston Fire station will exhibit similar building materials including brick veneer, metal panels, painted steel canopies, translucent polycarbonate panels, and storefront glass. The construction of a 16,000 sq. ft. free-standing fire station not only strives to accommodate the current and future needs of the city's Dept. of Public Safety, it also relocates their main fire station to a more central location in the city. The new fire station is slab on grade, and a combination of steel frame and load-bearing concrete masonry wall structure. The fire station will feature 6 drive-through apparatus bays, the associated gear/storage rooms, private sleeping quarters for 12 persons, captains offices, a large day room, and a training room that can operate as an emergency operations center. - UNDER CONSTRUCTION | ![]() |
| ECU - FOUNTAIN | ![]() |
East Carolina University has asked Davis-Kane to design a fountain that will be at one of the main entries to the campus. This fountain will have a large upper pool that cascades down to a lower outer pool. A seat wall will be provided at the perimeter of the fountain. There will also be numerous site improvements around the fountain including new walks, plantings, and seating areas. |
| ECU - SCOTT DORMITORY FEASIBILITY STUDY | Davis Kane Architects was commissioned by East Carolina University to study the feasibility of renovating the 98,000 square foot, four story, plus basement, building. The dormitory building, built in 1962, houses 500 students. The study includes the renovation of the existing suites to create a more desirable living space including ADA up fits, door and window replacements, and updated bathrooms and fixtures. The mechanical system, fire alarm system, emergency generator, asbestos abatement and other life safety issues will be examined. The study was continued to investigate a 100 + bed addition, enclosing the "U" shaped building. | ![]() |

It is slab on grade, and a combination of steel frame and load-bearing concrete masonry wall structure and will feature 1 drive-through apparatus bay in addition to 2 other front-entry bays, a mezzanine for storage, private sleeping quarters for up to 6 persons, 2 offices, and a large day room. |
| AVENT FERRY ADMINISTRATION CENTER | Davis Kane Architects has been selected for a renovation of the Avent Ferry Administration Center; this building is presently occupied by departments within the NCSU Resource Management and Information Systems (RMIS).
Before the University took ownership, this facility served as Conference Center and Ballroom for the adjacent hotel. Original spaces were subdivided and furnished to meet the immediate needs of the occupants. Presently, the University is interested in renovating the building to better serve the spatial needs of the users. The scope includes extensive interior demolition; redefining circulation paths; creating private office, open office, and conference room space in the entry level floor; creating warehouse and lab spaces in the lower level; additional fenestration for day lighting; and improvements to the site immediately adjacent to the building. In addition, the project is scheduled for phased construction under several bid packages. |
