Davis Kane Architects has a successful history of collaborating with NC State and their Athletics program, providing innovative and dynamic spaces for their coaches and athletes. Leveraging our collegiate athletics expertise, we were asked to help envision a refreshed look for their women’s basketball program locker and team lounge spaces. This new renovation would serve as a celebration of the program’s success for their existing players and provide a powerful recruiting tool for future prospective athletes.
The Design goals for the project challenged the design team to rethink the organization of the existing spaces, providing a player-oriented approach that would enhance the dedicated home for the program at Reynolds Coliseum. Entering the space, you walk into an open and inviting players’ lounge equipped with a 100” flat-screen TV, a full-service nutrition area with an eat-in island, open snack storage, blenders, and a full-size refrigerator. Adjacent to the lounge, we provided a recovery room furnished with two water massage tables, two sleeping pods, and sound-dampening interior finishes for practice and game day rest/treatment. Through an open entry off the lounge, you will find a locker space with 14 state-of-the-art, 44” wide lockers equipped with digital player displays, uniform, apparel, shoe storage, an Apple computer, task lighting, and device charging stations. The renovation also included a tiled floor-to-ceiling shower area with a dedicated salon counter for game day preparation.
We utilized high-end finishes, unique lighting accents, and close coordination with the owner’s branding team to elevate the new locker room while maintaining the established budget. Design and construction were carefully planned by Davis Kane to occur around team activities and the NC State Women’s Basketball Season, maintaining locker room use by the players when it was needed.
